Approach - Overview

NIP is, in some aspects, not a traditional company to work with. We believe that how we work and how we develop customer relationships are at least as important as our solutions themselves. More than this, we believe that it is essential that we "practice what we preach", and make our approach congruent with the principles encoded in our solutions:
  • Many traditional ways of doing things have either been shown not to work optimally, or are not readily-adaptable to the new business climate
  • Fully supporting the customer
  • Developing rich relationships with people
  • Balancing innovation and standardisation
  • Using familiar tools that are also future-proofed

We aim to be as flexible as possible, and have worked with many different companies in different industries. This experience covers both highly structured environments (e.g. systems validation, or formal project management methodologies), or very fluid prototyping structures.

However, there are two consistent and complementary themes that permeate and drive all aspects of how we work:

  • Balancing quality and structure with flexibility and pragmatism - anything that reinforces one at the expense of the other is not in our customers' interests, or ours
  • Relationships: both between prospects and vendors, and between project teams and end-users

NIP's approach meets the standard challenges of doing business, whilst addressing the increasingly important "softer" issues, and making sure that what we do fits well with customers' needs:

  • Technology - detailing the open source tools in which most of our present solutions are built, and explaining why we use them
  • Development - how we build our core systems, and how we are able to work/organise for specific projects
  • Methodologies - the different models and tools we use in different elements of our work
